- Head Lice Policy
- As a Nursery School we have a duty of care to all our children and we aim to make every effort to ensure the well-being of all children and staff.
- The Nursery cannot accept children into sessions who initially show any signs of head lice.
- If a child shows any signs of head lice, they must be taken home by the parent or guardian immediately. The following procedures should then occur;
STAGE 1: On the first day on which the head lice/eggs are noticed, the child’s head is treated either with a natural remedy or chemical remedy (See additional information).
STAGE 2: Over the next 6 days the child’s hair is regularly monitored and treated as necessary (according to each individual case).
STAGE 3: If on the seventh day from when the head lice/eggs are first noticed, the child still shows any signs of head lice, they are requested to not attend Nursery that day, so as the second treatment can be applied and monitored again.
- We advice all parents in the Nursery to follow these guidelines in order to reduce the spread of infestation;
- SHARING PERSONAL ITEMS – Children should be deterred from sharing combs, brushes, hats or other articles of clothing inside or outside the Nursery.
- PREVENTING RE-INFESTATION – Once a child has been deloused, steps will be needed to prevent re-infestation. All family members should be examined and treated if lice are found.
